The Ogun State Bureau of Transportation, in conjunction with a private parking services and management company, PAKS, has introduced a new parking arrangement in the State tagged; ‘’Off-Streets Parking,” towards ensuring that motorists and other road users obey parking laws and avoid congestion of vehicles on the road,
The State Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Barr Gbenga Opesanwo, spoke while playing host to PAKS officials who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Abeokuta, the state capital.
Opesanwo, in a statement signed by the Bureau’s Press Officer, Miss. Adebukola Adekanmbi, said the arrangement was aimed at decongesting the roads and avoiding indiscriminate parking of vehicles on the newly constructed roads to avert road accident.
He added that the involvement of Private Public Partnership (PPP) was to boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the State, saying the parking arrangement would ensure high level of security of vehicles at the parks, with a token to be paid by car owners.
“This new initiative by the government will bring about sanity to our roads and motor parks across the state and also boost the Internally Generated Revenue of the state, and no gain saying that it will also reduce traffic congestion and accident free in the state”.
He urged the stakeholders involved on the initiative both the government and PAKS officials to be law abiding citizens, advised the motorists both for commercial and private use to cooperate with government to make the programme a huge success in the state.
Also speaking during the session, the PAKS Operational Manager, Mr. Jide Chinonso, admonished motorists to cooperate with the management of the company, obey traffic rules and regulations, to avert unnecessary crashes on the roads, particularly at this Yuletide period.
He solicited for the people of the state who own some parcel of lands that could be used for such a purpose to come and negotiate with the government for hitch-free exercise of the programme across the three Senatorial Districts of the state.
