Residents of Sango, Ijoko, and Agbado community have called on Ogun State Government to fix the 32-kilometer Sango-Ijoko-Agbado-Ojodu road awarded to Messrs Prado E. Mercedos, a Brazilian construction firm.
Some of the residents who spoke with The Guardian on Tuesday lamented the hardship the uncompleted project was inflicting on them.
The state government had, since 2012, awarded the road and constructed Ijoko and Agbado bridges with portions of the roads being motorable from under the bridge, Sango to Ogba Iyo in Ijoko.
A resident, Tunde Ogoyale, who works with a company in Apapa, Lagos, said he leaves his house at Ijoko at 3:00 a.m. to resume work at 8:00 a.m.
“Most of us here who work in Lagos and live in Ogun State have been disconnected from the government. I spend four times of what I’m supposed to pay on transport to Sango alone,” he said.
Another resident, Kehinde Ikumapayi, said: “I work in Ejigbo, Lagos. I can tell you that I don’t go to work in my car because of our road. Another painful thing is that, if we are going to Ibadan from here, we have to go to Abeokuta, then to Sagamu interchange.”
The shortest route to Ojodu Berger is no longer accessible. The government should do this for us, please,” he pleaded.
Also, Folashade Oluwatoyin, said: “This road is no longer motorable. One must spend money on cars after using this road. The last government tried its best. We plead with this current administration to complete this road. The population is increasing. Ogun State doesn’t end at Abeokuta and some other towns.”
