The Ogun State Government says that it is imperative to upgrade Artisans’ skill acquisitions across the State in order to meet up with the new trend of technology in the country.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa made this known during a general meeting held with Association of Skilled and Vocational Artisans of Nigeria (ASVAN), held at Abiola way, Abeokuta.
Odemuyiwa, in a statement signed by Board’s Press Officer, Mrs. Busayo Malaolu, explained that the skill upgrading programme would expose the artisans to modern equipment in order to grow their trades and certified them for State contracts.
The Special Adviser said that education without craftsmanship was not enough for self substance, while encouraging the undergraduates to engage in skill acquisition programme along side their studies. In their responses Mr. Isikilu Aroyewun a plumber and Alhaja Alimat Kosoko a hairdresser appealed the State Government to engage them in building construction and some other craft works, saying that Government shun the act of bringing in outsiders for the State works.
