Residents and stakeholders in Oworonshoki within Kosofe Local Government have tasked the concerned authorities, on strict adherence to the decision of the deceased Oba Bashiru Saliu, that his son be crowned the next Oloworo of Oworo.
Stakeholders in the affairs of the Oworoshoki kingdom during a chat with newsmen on Sunday at a parley held to chart a way forward on the kingship issue, disclosed that the wishes of the late king need be respected, given the fact that he was the first crowned king of Oworoshoki.
Bashorun of Oworo kingdom, Chief Jelili Lawal maintained that as the three eligible family in the royal lineage, had already aligned with the decision made by late king should be upheld, no other bickering should be entertained on the matter.
“We have three families entitled to the throne in Oworoshoki kingdom, they are Elebo,Jegede and Kajola family and it is an incontrovertible fact that the late Oba Bashiru Oloruntoyin Saliu was the first to be crowned as king here.
“His reign was a peaceful one and prosperity had since been here with us,we felt the need to respect his wishes that his son, Prince Nurudeen Olalekan Saliu be made the next Oloworo so that we may continually enjoy it .
“Plans have been concluded for the Oloworo-Elect as permissible in the customs and traditions of the land that he be installed and crowned new Oloworo. Bashorun affirms.
Bashorun also hinted that the Oloworo-Elect had promised to ensure regular empowerment to alleviate poverty and to improve the economic wellbeing of people in his domain.
The Ajaguna of Kosofe, Chief Taiwo Lookman also disclosed that Nurudeen Saliu had received the blessings of all the Customary Chiefs in Oworo, indigene as well as residents.
“The voice of man is the voice of God, the deceased Oloworo had endorsed Nurudeen during his lifetime,as heir to the throne.
He, however warned that Oba Saliu is late but his words should be upheld and not neglected.
Also an Islamic Cleric, Aruna Ishola at the parley noted that, as the traditionalist had perform rights to ensure a peaceful Oworoshonki community, Muslims and Christians are also complimenting the efforts with their prayers.
Ishola, who noted that the choice of Nurudeen as the Oloworo-Elect was a collective one, stressed that they had started praying in support for the consensus candidate to have a beautiful reign.
Also Alhaja Ganiat Saliu-Salami, the late monarch’s sister, noted that every members of Elebo, in Oworo as well as all Indigenes and residents should consider each other as brothers and sisters.
Similarly, the Iyalode of Oworo, Chief Mrs Muyunat Ishola Agbabiaka said “The late Oloworo treated everyone of us as his children. We should all support and uphold his words.
“Oba Olohuntoyin had endorsed and presented Nurudeen Olalekan as the next Oloworo, long before his death” she declared.
She also warned that turning deaf ears to instructions and orders of such person would be so disastrous.
Agbabiaka implored the aggrieved side to remember and appreciate the instructions of late Oba Bashiru Saliu and give peace a chance.
In a joint call to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the stakeholders urge him to ensure that the consensus candidate for the vacant stool of the Oloworo of Oworonshoki, Omooba Nurudeen Olalekan Saliu emerged in due time.
The chiefs also warned everyone stoking the fire of discord in Oworo to stop; or expect the anger of the ancestors.
