As the Ondo State Governorship election draws nearer, stakeholders of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) UK South-West Caucus has indicated unfettered support for the incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to retain his seat as the man with reins of power in the state come November 16.
In a statement jointly signed by all chairmen of the six states; Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti as well the caucus chairman Hon Andrew Taiwo who doubles as the chairman of Ogun state, the caucus highlighted the various impactful approach of Governor Aiyedatiwa which has a direct and positive bearing on the lives of every Ondo people in the ten months he held forte, for which he deserves to stage a comeback.
According to the statement, Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to the well-being and development of Ondo State with visible progress that speaks volumes of what more to expect if he continues in office.
The various attainments of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa cited by the caucus includes, “Workers’ Welfare and Palliatives: Governor Aiyedatiwa has improved the standard of living for civil servants by approving a new minimum wage of ₦73,000—one of the highest in the country.
“Additionally, he implemented palliative allowances to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal on public sector workers. His administration has also cleared backlogs of unpaid salaries and pension arrears, proving his commitment to workers’ welfare.
“Education and Youth Empowerment: Aiyedatiwa recognizes the importance of education and youth development. His administration recently disbursed ₦335 million in scholarships and bursaries to over 11,000 students, including increased payments for students with disabilities.
“The governor has also prioritized the renovation of schools and digitalization of the education sector to improve learning outcomes.
“Economic Support for Small Businesses and Farmers: To support local businesses and farmers, the government has provided over ₦2 billion in soft loans to entrepreneurs and small-scale farmers. This initiative not only boosts economic growth but also encourages more youth involvement in agriculture and entrepreneurship.
“Security and Infrastructure: Governor Aiyedatiwa has made significant strides in improving security through enhanced funding for the Amotekun Security Network, ensuring safer communities and roads. He has also prioritized infrastructure projects, with ongoing efforts to complete major developments like the Akure flyover.
“Community Involvement and Governance: Aiyedatiwa runs an inclusive government, demonstrated by his appointment of hundreds of special assistants from diverse communities. His administration listens to local needs, commissioning boreholes for clean water in rural areas and installing solar-powered streetlights to enhance security.”
The Caucus however, submits that given the governor’s humane approach to governance within the short time he had, if given another opportunity via re-election continuity of these initiatives and the assurance of even more development is assured.
“His administration promises to expand existing welfare programs, increase agricultural productivity, and ensure affordable food for every household. With stability and progress as his hallmarks, Aiyedatiwa’s leadership offers the best path forward for Ondo State.
