The All Progressives Congress (APC) Organizing Secretary in Akure south LG, Akinwande Fayinminu, on Wednesday , led over 700 other members of the party to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of the November 2024 gubernatorial election in the state, hinging their decision on
lack of internal democracy and the cult-like operational mode in the APC.
The decampees include members
of three major APC groups in Akure South. They are the Katike, Positive Force and Ebira groups.
The Katike Group was led in the defection exercise, by Mr Mayowa Boboye, alongside another leader in APC ward 11 in Akure south , Fessy Oloro, who also decamped to the PDP.
Others include Omolabi Agbi, chairman Tipper garage, Sunday Ajayi, APC exco member , ward 2 Akure, ilesanmi Arasan, ward 8 , Akure south . Mrs Olowosusi Deborah, APC woman leader in ward 10, Akure south . Mrs Makanjuola in charge of young women in ward 11 in Akure south among others while he Ebira community was led by Azeez Ibrahim.
The defectors lamented the ridicule they suffered as members of the APC, because of the party’s incompetence, which has led to serious economic crisis in the country and the state in particular.
Speaking at the occasion , Mayowa Boboye , aka Katike, said that APC has frustrated Nigerians and dragged the nation back. He said it is time to team up with a party that mean well for the people.
According to Katike, it will be very difficult for any sincere person to queue behind the APC candidate to campaign ahead of the coming election,with the level of failure recorded by the party so far. In his words, “the state has suffered terribly in the hands of the incompetent APC, it is obvious they can’t match the competence level of the PDP that vacated office for them almost eight years ago.
” Every largesse of democracy we enjoyed in the state before the APC came have now become history, no thanks to the vision less party”.
On hand to recieve the new members into the PDP were the State party Acting chairman , Mr Tola Alabere , the Governorship Candidate of the party , H E Agboola Alfred Ajayi, Dr Tayo Dario and the PDP Chairman in Akure South, Mr Busiyi Micheal
Welcoming the decampees, PDP Acting Chairman , Tola Alabere said they are welcome into a party that does not segregate, adding that as they joined the party, they are on the same pedestal with all other members of the party.
Also speaking at the event, Dr Tayo Dario, a chieftain of the PDP, charged the decampees to be proactive and work very hard with members on ground, so that together they can share the glory of winning the state back to the road to democratic and economic fulfilment.
” In PDP, there is no joiner , we are all members of same party with equal right in all sphere” he said .
While also congratulating the decampees , the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Agboola Ajayi promised they won’t regret their decision.
He declared that the PDP will restore life back to the state with the commitment and loyalty of the new members.
He charged them to be part of the process that will liberate Ondo State into prosperity.
