The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has accused the State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, of hiding the truth about the achievements of his administration.
A statement on Wednesday signed by the State chairman of the party, Mr Tajudeen Lawal, recalled that Adeleke, as a guest at the 16th Harvest Anniversary and Thanksgiving Service held at Love of Christ Generation Church, C & S, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Sunday, reeled out some of the projects that were unknown to his administration and some that were executed by his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola.
The APC said Adeleke mentioned imaginary and his predecessor’s projects which earned him the praise from the ex-president, Olusegun Obasanjo, who commended him for combining active public service with dancing.
Reacting further, Lawal said, “It is not an understatement to declare that Adeleke does not merit any accolades for any reason as he is yet to prove his mettle that he has what it takes to successfully administer Osun State.
“One would have expected Governor Adeleke to be a man and be bold enough to tell ex-President Obasanjo that the rehabilitation of the Osogbo-Ikirun road which his administration had been laying claim of having been completed within 100 days in office, was already completed by 75 per cent by the administration of former Governor Oyetola.
“One would have expected Governor Adeleke to be truthful enough to tell the former President that the establishment of the Ilesa University was one of the landmark achievements of the immediate-past governor of the state.”
But responding to the APC chairman’s claim, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Sunday Bisi, berated APC for attempting to downplay Adeleke’s performance, noting that the opposition party position would not alter the reality of many achievements of the current administration.
Bisi said, “For Sooko Lawal, he would go down as a politician who is always at war with the truth no matter how glaring it is. He elevated his well-known penchant for twisting reality to the most despicable height by openly disputing the lines of achievements of Governor Adeleke in the last 10 months.
“It is illogical, if not absurdity, for Sooko Lawal and the APC to deny Governor Adeleke the credit for the completion of the 10km Osogbo-Ikirun dual carriage road. Contrary to the misleading position of Sooko Lawal, the road is what it is today due to Governor Adeleke’s pragmatic leadership, which was duly acknowledged by the contractor handling the project, otherwise, it could have suffered the same faith as many other projects abandoned by the Oyetola administration.
“While we sympathize with the APC for lacking the character and capacity to adequately carryout its opposition role, we must however warn that it would be making a grievous mistake to think it can hoodwink the people with lies and irresponsible posture that seems to define its strategy lately.”
