Osun community vows reprisal attack on miners over rape, murder of food vendor

A case of alleged gang rape and murder is presently pitching the youths of Afon community against miners in the town, located in Ibodi town, in  Atakumosa West Local Government of Osun State.

A young food vendor, identified as Wunmi Babatope was said to have been raped to death by the miners.

SUNRISE NEWS gathered that the food vendor had hawked food to Afon village on Monday and did not return home.

The incident made her husband to raise alarm which attracted residents of the community.

Some residents of the community volunteered to search for the woman in Afon village but unfortunately, her corpse was found at a mining site, naked.

The youths suspected that the miners raped her to death and left her remains at the scene of the crime.

Consequently, youths in the community are mobilizing arming themselves with weapons, with the intention to attack the miners in the area over the alleged death. They vowed to unravel the secret behind the vendor’s gruesome murder.

When contacted on the phone, the spokesperson of the Osun State Police Command, Mrs Yemisi Opalola said, police have been deployed to the community and they are pacifying the youths to desist from taking the law into their hands.
