Oyetola installs new Alapomu, tasks new Oba to rally development for Apomu

Osun State Governor Isiaka Gboyega Oyetola on Friday presented the staff of office to the new Alapomu of Apomu, in Isokan Local Government Area of the state, Oba Kayode Adenekan Afolabi.

Oyetola who was represented by the Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs Prince Yekeen Adeleke, charged the Oba to join hands with the government in bringing development to the people of Apomu.

The governor who congratulated the people of Apomu for their choice of Afolabi as the new Oba said with his ascension a new era has began for the ancient town and a new phase in the annals of the state.

Presenting the instruments of office to the new Oba, the governor said government will continue to work with all traditional institutions in order to bring peace and development to the grassroots.

The ceremony which took place at the AUD Secondary School, Apomu drew the crème de la crème of the Yoruba race in felicitation with the ancient town of Apomu.

Oba Kayode Adenekan Afolabi is ascending the throne after 15 years of the demise of the last occupant to the throne.

Before a mammoth crowd of paramount traditional rulers, led by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, and several other Obas of Yorubaland and Baales, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, crowned the new Oba as the Alapomu of Apomu.

Oba Afolabi assumes office as the 14th Oba of the town.

Besides the Alaafin and other Obas among who were the Onikoyi of Ikoyi, Olofa of Offa, Akire of Ikire, Olobu of Ilobu and the Oluwo of Iwo.

Oba Ogunwusi prayed God to grant the new Oba a long and peaceful reign that would be marked with rapid development of the peaceful town.

He expressed happiness that the people of Apomu rallied together to pick an educated person as an Oba.

Oba Afolabi was accompanied by his amiable Queen Janet Afolabi, a CNN award journalist and publisher of ScrollOnline Newspaper.

The President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) Mr Dotun Oladipo, led a powerful delegation of members of the association to the event to felicitate with the Queen Janet Mba-Afolabi, who until her elevation was the Treasurer of the group.
