By Olanrewaju Adesanya

Former House of Representatives Member Kosofe Federal Constituency,Hon. Dayo Alebiosu-Bush,has called for a sincere and deliberate investment in the children from cradle, basic cultural and moral values.

Hon.Dayo Bush made this assertion at the 11th Ramadan Lecture and Special Prayer for the Nation organised by the Abdulwahid Islamic Foundation in Lagos.

The lawmaker also task clerics on the need to restore the lost good moral value based thought line narrative back into the society,  through their Worship centres.

According to him most of the previous leaders of the nation are Muslims but it has really not impacted positively on the scheme of things.

In his comment on the theme of the programme; “Re-Positioning the Family for National Development: Raising Positive Kids through Responsible Parenting”.

Hon. Dayo harped on the importance of proper parenting which make everyone look out for each other’s ward to ensure a functional society.

“If most of the Presidents we have had in this country are muslims then it means there is a fundamental problem. Morals and cultural values are lacking.

“It is important to teach the children good virtues,as these are not learnt in schools.

“I once tried cigarette along with friends,a known face caught me and dealt with me she also reported me to my parents. I was later disciplined for the wrong doing again at home and that halted me from picking up any social vices.

“Parents at times debar the inculcation of discipline in their wards.Teaching the young ones from childhood is paramount.

“Kidnapping is a vices now disturbing our peace all because of poor parenting.

“This kind of event affords a fantastic opportunity as any nation or society that invest in its children is definitely going to be great .

“How well are we doing what we are doing? What is Education, Education is the learning of facts, how do we really move things forward, how do we let them know the right from the wrong, how do we get them to understand that?

“They very bright and intelligent, they know talking the talk and walking the talk are two different things, you have to walk the talk and that’s the only way we can get that across to the young ones today.

He also advocated a change of our discipline pattern.

“So parenting takes a very very important aspect of grooming a child. The way you mold, what you mold the child through matters, how many children actually have discipline?

“There is a statement that in disciplining a child, there is a tendency to dominate,we also need to look at the way and manner in which we communicate with these children.

“Parenting does not just apply for only your biological children but your children’s friends, how do you impact positively on them is it with the perception that I am only looking out for my children or I’m looking for them collectively?

“These are the things we have to look at and as the children train the parents must also continue to learn on how best to communicate with their children and we support it with prayers.” Said Hon. Dayo Alebiosu-Bush.

Other speakers at the epoch making event also touched on issues bothering good parenting in the nation, which includes a paradigm shift of our goal setting model from what it used to be.
