Police apprehend suspected notorious cultist in Edo

The police command in Edo has apprehended a notorious cultist, terrorizing residents in the state.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, made the disclosure via a statement on Tuesday in Benin.

Nwabuzor said that men of the Fugar Police Division intercepted the suspect during a stop-and-search operation in the area.

According to him, the suspect, aged 30, was riding a Haojue motorcycle, when he was arrested.

The spokesperson said that the police recovered one cut-to-size double-barrel gun and nine rounds of live cartridges from the suspect.

According to him, the suspect has confessed to membership of Black Axe.

Nwabuzor said that the suspect confessed that he was taking the gun to Auchi in Edo to meet some other secret cult members.

According to the spokesperson, the suspect, the gun and the cartridges will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

He quoted the state Commissioner of Police Funsho Adegboye as praising the Fugar divisional police officer and his team members for gallantry and commitment to the fighting crime.

According to the spokesperson, Adegboye said that hardship would not be an excuse for committing crime. (NAN)
