Isiaka Olanrewaju, 28, was charged before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Friday for reportedly smoking Indian hemp in public.
The Prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, informed the court that the defendant committed the crime on January 12, about 10:00 a.m., in the Iloro neighborhood of Ile-Ife.
According to Abdullahi, the defendant conspired with others, who are now at large, to conduct an offense causing a breach of the peace.
He went on to say that the defendant’s actions may have caused havoc in Ile-Ife and its environs.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 249(d), 430 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to three-count charge of conspiracy, smoking Indian hemp and possession of Indian hemp.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Okoh Wonder, applied for bail for the defendant in the most liberal term, pledging that he would not jump bail but would provide reliable sureties.
Magistrate O. B. Adediwura granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000, with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan. 28, for mention.
