- kidnappers flee, abandoning victims in bush
Luck in a huge dose dropped on the laps of three kidnapped persons as their abductors left them in the bush to escape confrontation with security operatives who, acting on intelligence report had been on their trail.
The Ogun State Police Command busted the abduction on the Siun-Ajura Road in Ogere Remo area of the state, in the early hours of Thursday.
The Police Command in a statement made available to Sunrise.ng stated that the victims, two males and a female; Jibril Afolabi, Alhaji Amusat Taofeek, and Balikis Mohammed, were on returning from Ilorin, Kwara State, alongside other passengers in a vehicle on Wednesday, and were heading to Owode-Egbado when, at about 3:00am, Thursday, some gunmen dragged them out of the vehicle and matched them into the bush.
The number of victims would have been higher but, the Command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, stated that other passengers in the vehicle had escaped.
According to the release, on receiving the unpleasant information of the abduction, the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun, swiftly directed a massive search for the victims, while ordering that the hoodlums be tracked down.
He specifically detailed the Sagamu Area Commander to mobilize men from all divisions within the area, the Command’s Anti-kidnapping Unit as well as SWAT to move to the scene.
“The entire bush was cordoned off and zealously combed by the operatives, with the assistance of hunters, local vigilantes and officers of the So-Safe corps. When the heat became much and unbearable for the abductors, they took flight, abandoning the victims in the bush”, Oyeyemi said.
He stated further that, all the victims were rescued at about 6:00pm on Thursday, adding that, “without any ransom paid and, they were escorted to their destinations at Owode-Egbado”.
