Property worth millions of Naira destroyed as fire guts residential building in Ilorin

A fire incident in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital Friday destroyed a six-bedroom flat belonging to one Alhaja Kadijat Suleiman.

The timely intervention of the Disaster Management Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and men of the Kwara State Fire Service, prevented further destruction by the fire at Binuyo Compound, off Sabo Line, Isale Maliki area of Ilorin.

According to an eyewitness account, the fire completely razed a six bedroom flat belonging to Alhaja Khadijat Sulaiman with property worth millions of Naira destroyed in the inferno.

Confirming the incident to newsmen in Ilorin on Friday, the spokesman of the NSCDC in the State, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, explained that the fire outbreak was reportedly caused by electric spark largely due to substandard cable used during the electrical connection of the building.

“Our officers from the Disaster Management Unit and men of the state fire service responded swiftly and were able to prevent the inferno from spreading to the nearby buildings,” Babawale disclosed.
