The Super Eagles of Nigeria have failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, after playing out a 1-1 draw with Ghana in Abuja.
The Black Stars of Ghana qualified on the away goal rule. The first leg in Ghana had ended in a goalless draw, but the Ghanaians scored a crucial away goal in Abuja.
Ghana opened scoring on the 10th minute of play from Arsenal’s defender, Thomas Partey, to silence the capacity-crowd at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, who have come to watch entertaining match.
Gideon Mensah pulled the ball back for Partey on the edge of the box, and he beat the keeper with a fine strike into the bottom left corner.
Nigeria equalised from the penalty spot 11 minutes later by William Troost-Ekong.
Despite dominating possession and had 20 goal attempts, against Ghana’s six, the Eagles could not score the winning goal.
The Nigerian side had five shots on goal, while Ghana scored with its only shot on goal.
Ghana has thus qualified for the biggest football showpiece on earth at the expense of Nigeria,
