Nigerians living along critical railway infrastructure have been urged to avail security operatives of informations capable of preventing future occurrences of attacks on its infrastructure, such as witnessed on Monday on the Kaduna bound train.
The management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation made the appeal yesterday in a statement, where it condemned the attack on the train by bandits.
In a statement signed by Deputy Director of Public Relations Yakub Mahmood, the NRC said regrets the incessant attack on its infrastructure, noting that the repeated attacks could reverse the gains of modernisation of the railway infrastructure by the government.
“The deliberate destruction of the government’s critical infrastructure would not be condoned as all hands are on deck to fish out the perpetrators of this dastardly acts to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement said.
It added that the incessant acts of threatening the lives of peaceful and law abiding Nigerians as well as the wanton destruction of the federal government’s critical infrastructure would no longer be condoned.
The NRC lauded the security operatives as well as the Kaduna State Government for their swift response towards salvaging the situation and rescuing some of its passengers on the ill-fated train.
Meanwhile workers of the Nigerian Railway, under the aegies of the Nigeria Union of Railway has urged the management to cancel all night trips and operations following the attack on the Kaduna bound train.
In a statement signed by the Secretary General Comrade Olusegun Esan, the union commiserated with the management and relatives of victims of the train attack, and prayed God to be with relations of those who lost their lives in the incident.
Esan said the union had in response to earlier attacks especially on the Abuja-Kaduna route called on the management to stop all night operations pending the completion of signaling and communication installations, as well as the installation of on-train CCTV, and explosive detectors and other technologically advanced support to aid safe ride on the train. Esan assured that as a responsible union, railway workers would continue to partner with the management and the federal government in the onerous task of making the railway very safe for all Nigerians, irrespective of class or status in the society.
