The Amir Mumin and Leader of the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria, The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, Thursday night announced this year’s Ramadan fast will begin on Friday, April 24, 2020.
He said the new moon had been sighted.
Regarded as a holy month, Ramadan is the period when Muslims observe month long fasting and prayers.
The Sultan directed Muslims to shun congregational gatherings and maintain social distancing throughout Ramadan as part of measures to limit the spread of COVID-19.
