Former Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan, has urged the National Assembly and to regularise elections in the country.
Jonathan made the call while speaking to newsmen after voting at Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
He congratulated Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa States for conducting a successful and peaceful election.
Jonathan said, “Firstly let me congratulate the three states conducting elections today, Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa for a successful election.
“But basically because this is an off-season election I get worried and I will use this opportunity to plead with the National Assembly that we need to block this off-season election.
“If we continue with this trend of off-season elections based on the interpretations of our laws by the judiciary, a time will come that the presidential elections will be off-season.
“The off-season election almost occurred in 2007 when I was a running mate to late President Ya’radua.”
