The recent demolition in FESTAC Town, Lagos State has been described by the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) as a timely action to forestall the looming danger which is a direct consequence of several years of none compliance with physical planning laws and not ethnically motivated.
In a statement issued by FHA, its management said the master plan of FESTAC had been bastardized and the infractions had continued unabated.
It said residents did not comply with agreements reached with FHA on how to salvage the situation which is a time bomb waiting to explode, hence proactive efforts by the authority to prevent building collapses and avoidable loss of lives.
The authority insisted that its response was to correct negative narratives of ethnic colouration being peddled by mischief makers some of whom were serial land grabbers intending to create disunity.
The management explained how it designed a second phase of the FESTAC Town with a standard Layout for development which was bastardized and later slowed down by litigations.
“Unfortunately, this situation was capitalised by some persons, who started selling parts of the land to individuals.
