- Gives out LASTMA hotlines to forestall breach of traffic laws

The Commissioner for Transportation Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi has appealed to all motorists, particularly those plying the newly rehabilitated Third Mainland Bridge to prioritize safety.
He urged them to adhere strictly to designated speed limits of 80 km per hour, emphasizing that such compliance not only ensures their personal safety but also protects other road users, especially commuters.
Osiyemi also tasked commuters not to abet flouting of the state’s traffic laws, especially that of overspeeding especially in Third Mainland Bridge, by reporting such instances of reckless driving on the bridge to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) outpost or urged them to report over-speeding drivers to to the following hotlines: 09020009000, 09020004000.
He disclosed this in a statement issued yesterday, adding that though the government is committed to enforcing the speed limit, much could be done if there is voluntary compliance by all motorists to traffic regulations to build the culture of safety.
Mr. Osiyemi’s appeal came in the wake of a lone accident, on the Third Mainland Bridge on Wednesday, involving a medium-sized commercial vehicle, which almost plunged into the lagoon following a failed braking system.
Unconfirmed reports indicated that two of the 20 passengers in the bus were plunged into the lagoon, while 18 of them were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital. The driver of the bus, LASTMA officials claimed, escaped from the scene of the accident.
