A 22-year-old sales representative, Stanley Jacob, who allegedly stole N699,955 he realised from the sale of table water, on Thursday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.
Jacob, whose residential address was not given, is facing a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Christopher Okoliko told the court that the defendant committed the theft between March 2019 and November 2019 at No. 27 Agbonyin Avenue, Surulere, Lagos.
Okoliko said that the defendant sold packs of table water worth N699, 955 and fraudulently converted the money to his personal use, in contravention of Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail by the Magistrate, Mrs Bola Folarin-Williams, in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Folarin-Williams directed that the sureties must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until Feb. 19 for trial.
