The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Tuesday has urged the Federal Government and the various state governments to ensure full compliance to the COVID-19 safety protocols as the universities gears up for academic activities.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) had last week directed university managements to prepare for resumption of academic activities beginning from January 18, 2021.

But ASUU National President Prof Biodun Ogunyemi said there seems to be nothing on ground to indicate that adequate steps have been taken to ensure the safety of the students before the resumption of activities.

He called on the Federal Government to revisit the guideline blueprint it generated in July last year regarding the safety protocols and to ensure that all is in place before ordering resumption of academic activities.

He said though ASUU had suspended its strike action, he however could not guaranty the safety of both teachers and/or students fir academic activities.

Ogunyemi said much still needed to be put in place before the resumption of academic activities
