Shehu Sani lists 8 top abandoned projects in Nigeria and amount wasted on them

Former Nigerian Senator in the eight Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani has listed eight elephant projects that has been abandoned by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the then NASS, posted the projects on his X-handle ( formerly Tweeter), listed the Ajaokuta steel mills, with amount spent $8Billion.

Other abandoned projects according to Sani are: Mambila Hydro Power plant which has gulped a whopping $5.8Billion and the Brass LNG on which government has spent $10Billion but was disputed by NNPC to be $1.9 Billion.

Others also listed by Sani are the Abuja CCTV project on which $460 million has been spent, the Rivers State monorail, which has cost government $400 million, and the Dredging of River Niger on which a whopping N34 Billion has been spent.

There is also the Katsina Windmills which has cost N4.4Billion and the TINAPA resort with $350 million so far spent.

Sani’s abandoned project’s list came on the heels of fresh worries expressed by the former Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar over the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

Atiku, in a statement issued on Sunday had warned that the project risked been abandoned by the Federal Government as it was merely meant to advance the personal interest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Atiku said the project which was awarded to HITECH Construction owned by Chagoury, a business who has links with the President was questionable as the first phase was said to begin and end in Lagos.

In the first phase, which is 47.47 km is to begin at the fringe of Eko Atlantic City also handled by by HITECH Construction for the Lagos State government would end at the Lekki end of the Lagos Free Zone.

He expressed fears that the project may be abandoned adding that the project, which cost has been shrouded in mystery.Shehu Sani, a human rights activist has been very vocal in ensuring meaningful governance in Nigeria.
