Shettima inaugurates committee on alleged sodomy at Maiduguri Prison

SUNRISE – Borno Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima will on Monday, inaugurate an investigative panel into alleged incidences of child prostitution, sodomy and forced abortion at the Maiduguri Maximum Security Prison.

An online newspaper, Sahara Reporters has recently reported these cases at the prison, which made the governor to appoint people into a committee saddled with unearthing the incident.
Shettima, in a twit on his verified handle, said the panel is to be chaired by the State’s attorney general and commissioner of justice, Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan while the permanent Secretary, Ministry of women affairs and social development is to serve as Secretary.
The governor’s tweet read:
“I just came across this disturbing story reported by usually credible @saharareporters. I am immediately setting up a committee under the chairmanship of the Hon. Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice alongside some key officials to visit the prisons; meet officials, investigate and report to me as soon as possible.”
Members of the Committee include; Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan, Hauwa Mai-Musa, Barrister Mohammed Umaru, Barrister Amina Mustafa Ibrahim, Representative of the Nigerian Police Force, Representative of the DIrector State Security (DSS), Representative of the Comptroller, Nigeria Prisons Service, Borno) and Jummai Usman Mshelia.
