Barcelona boss, Xavi Hernandez, has said that his team could leave with their ‘heads held high’ after losing 3-2 against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final tie on Wednesday.
Real Madrid defeated Barcelona at the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, thanks to three goals from Vinicius Junior, Karim Benzema and Federico Valverde.
Luuk de Jong and Ansu Fati scored for Barcelona during the encounter.
Speaking after the game, Xavi said at this post-match press conference, “It was clear that it was a day when we showed courage and took responsibility with the ball.
“Today was a day to go out with your head held high despite the defeat.”
Xavi added, “We were superior to Madrid in many moments. It’s two different feelings.
“A very bad feeling of defeat, but on the other hand, we can feel very proud of the game. We need a little more patience.”
Barcelona’s next fixture is against Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey on January 19.
