As anticipation builds for the Sports Journalists Forum’s upcoming annual End of the Year Party on Saturday 23 December 2023, at the Sinatra Place and Lounge, a generous cash prize of 500,000 naira has been splashed on ten SJF’s outstanding members for their exceptional contributions and achievements in sports journalism for the year under review.
Kingsley Oyero, Faith Oluchi, U17 Women National team Media officer; Fisayo Dairo, Chief Football Writer, ACLSports; China Acheru, Programmes Manager – Wazobia FM; Samuel Ahmadu, Publisher, Savid News and Jessica Amadi, former Media Officer of Rivers Angels Women Football Club emerged winners in various categories and smiled home with a cash prize of 50,000 naira. Other winners were Mozez Praiz, Presenter, SuperSport; Babafemi Raji, Super Eagles Media Officer; Enitan Obadina, Opera News; and Oni Afolabi, former Spokesperson of the Nigeria Basketball Federation.
After the eagerly awaited and highly competitive SJF voting ceremony, Dairo clinched the Admin of the Year title with an impressive 26 votes, surpassing Oketoki, who garnered 21 votes. Praiz secured his place in the SJF Hall of Fame with 18 votes, narrowly defeating Port Harcourt-based Acheru, who garnered 16 votes.
Oyero emerged victorious as the Member of the Year (Male) with an overwhelming 31 votes, leaving Tunde Bello in the second position with 23 votes as Acheru once again bagged the coveted Peacemaker of the Year award with an impressive 33 votes, ahead of second-placed Andrew Randa, who got eight votes.
In other categories, Oluchi captured the hearts of voters, securing the Female Member of the Year title with an outstanding 35 votes, leaving Queen Kada in the second position with eight votes. Amadi claimed the SJF Afterdark Member of the Year award with 28 votes.
Obadina received 35 votes, earning the title of Most Resourceful Member, surpassing former Super Eagles Media Officer, Colin Udoh, who garnered 18 votes. Women football expert, Ahmadu emerged as the Reporter of the Year with an impressive 36 votes, outshining Dairo, who polled 19 votes.
After a keen contest, Raji edged out Queen Moseph (Rivers Hoopers Basketball Club media officer) with 24 votes against the latter’s 21 votes as Oni secured the title of Most Active SJF Member of the Year with 31 votes, ahead of Kingsley Oyero, who had 28 votes.
Winners will also be presented with a plaque and a football jersey courtesy of OWU Sportswear at the award ceremony on Saturday by 4 pm.
