Suspected armed robber, cultist nabbed in Lagos, as police turn down 2 accomplices’ N.5m bribe

Two young men, in their early 20s, have been nabbed in Ajah area of Lagos by police detectives.

One, an armed robber and the other, a cultist.

While the robbery suspect was apprehended with fire arm and ammunition, the cultist was in possession of an expended cartridge, police have disclosed.

Also arrested were two culpable accomplices, who had offered the police officers a whopping sum of N500,000, to secure the release of the suspects.

In a press release issued by the Lagos State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, all the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Area “J” Command in Elemoro.

According to the police spokesman, the armed robbery suspect, Alabi Timothy, 23, a resident of 9, Baale Street, Majek area of Ajah, was arrested by men of the Anti-crime patrol team of Area “J” Command at about 00: 30hrs on September 4, 2021 at General Paint Garden area, Lekki, during a routine stop and search.

Recovered from him was a locally-made double barrel gun and two live cartridges, as well as an expended cartridge, concealed in a bag.

The 22-year-old self-confessed member of Aye Confraternity, Badmus Toheed, was said to have been arrested on the same day the robbery was picked.

His own arrest was at General Paint Ghetto, at about 00:45am.

The suspected cultist, from whom a live cartridge was recovered, said in his confessional statement that he was initiated into the Confraternity sometime in June, 2021.

In a bid to get the two suspects off police hook, two persons who offered the policemen a sum of N500,000, were also arrested.

They are  Adariku Sunday, 34, of 66, Henry Smith Close, Abidjan GRA, Ajah and Folorunso Akeem, 43.

Adariku offered the sum of N400, 000 cash to secure the release of the robbery suspect while Folorunso, 43, offered N100, 000 cash for the release of the suspected cultist.

The PPRO said: “Determined to ensure justice through investigation, the uncompromising police officers in charge of the case rejected the bribe”, stating further that, “While commending the professionalism and uncompromising act of the police officers, the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, admonished other police officers, to emulate the incorruptible ones.

The Commissioner of Police has, however, directed that the case should be transferred to the Command’s Tactical Team for further investigation and prosecution.
