Suspension of rail services: It’s better to lose money than human lives – Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani on Friday reacted to the suspension of rail services by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) over bandits’ attack on its coaches and passengers along the Kaduna-Abuja route on Wednesday.

Recall that suspected bandits planted a bomb that exploded, damaging the rail track and parts of a train.

Sani, reacting to the NRC’s decision, wrote on his verified Facebook page that it is better to lose a huge amount of money than to lose human lives, adding that money lost can be recovered, but a life lost can never be recovered.

“They said NRC will lose N19 million daily for service suspension. It’s better to lose money than human lives.

“You can recover lost money but not human lives. Sensors, minesweepers, and helicopter patrol services are needed to protect the rail lines and the passengers at this stage. Anything short of this is a dangerous gamble,” he wrote.

Sani had raised the alarm of possible derailment after he revealed that a train he boarded had run over the damaged rail, saying it was miracle they escaped unhurt.
