The Guardian Newspapers, (GNL), Nigeria’s leading newspaper has lost its Photo Editor Mr Musibaudeen Olufemi Adebesin-Kuti.
Adebesin-Kuti died in the early hours of Friday, after a brief illness reports sunrise.ng.
News of his death was broken by his wife, who disclosed that the erstwhile Photo Editor was briefly admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, shortly before Christmas.
She said his health worsened by January 1, 2023, and attempts were actually on to refer him to St Nicholas Hospital, in Lagos for more adequate medical treatment.
Femi Adebesin-Kuti, a veteran, ace photo journalist who proved his mettle in the sphere of sports photo journalism was said to have died at bout 2am on Friday, while plans were at advanced stage to transfer him to the prestigious St Nicholas Hospital in Lagos.
A veteran photo journalist, Adebesin-Kuti has covered several FIFA World Cups, the last of which was the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), have commiserated with the wife, children, family and associates of the late photo journalist.
In a statement signed by the Council Chairman, Adeleye Ajayi and Secretary Tunde Olalere, the union described Femi Adebesin-Kuti’s death as “a great shock.”
The union prayed that God in his infinite mercy to uphold and stand by his immediate family and colleagues at this trying times.
The union also commiserated with members of The Guardian newspapers Chapel and the entire Photo Journalists Association of Nigeria (PJAN) family.
PJAN Chairman Abiodun Ajala in a statement said Femi Adebesin-Kuti fondly called Esin Funfun (White Horse), was a warm, charismatic friend and lover of sports.
“During his lifetime, he was a fan of Arsenal Football Club. He witnessed and covered the FIFA World Cup in South Africaand Russia respectively,” the statement said.
He prayed God to grant him eternal rest.
Another PJAN Chieftain Mr Kolawole Olasupo, popularly called Otunba, described Femi Adebesin-Kuti’s death as a rude shock.
He described the late colleague as a peaceful and perfect gentleman who is totally committed to his trade.
