The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Mahmood Yakubu on Thursday insisted that the general elections will hold as scheduled.

In a passing remark when the new Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig. General Yushu’a Ahmed visited the commission, Yakubu said the commission has no plans to shift any of the elections.

Sunrise News gathered that the INEC Chief was reacting to media reports and rumoured planned extension of the elections. He however did not elaborate.

He also assured the NYSC of the safety of Corps members mobilised for the polls.

He said the commission was lucky to have a large poll of youths ready for deployment during the elections, adding that across the world, no electoral commission can conduct any election based on the strength of its staff alone.

The new NYSC DG, Brig. General Yushu’a Ahmed said the commitment of the NYSC to the delivery of credible elections in the country was unshakable and praised the cordial relationship between the commission and the Service.
