The Borno State Governor Alhaji Kashim Shettima, the APC governorship candidate Prof. Babagana Umara and other top politicians escaped by whiskers on Wednesday, when their convoy was attacked by gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram.

But no fewer than three party chieftains were not so lucky, they fell under the heavy shelling of the inglorious insurgents.

The governor was traveling to Gamboru-Ngala on political campaign when his convoy ran into an ambush between Dikwa and Gamboru on Tuesday evening.
Sources said there was an exchange of gunfire and three persons believed to be party supporters who had joined his convoy on the campaign were killed in the gunfire exchange.
Though, there is no official confirmation just yet, the deputy governor, Usman Durkwa told our correspondent on Wednesday afternoon that he heard rumour of the attack but due to bad mobile network around the axis, he was yet to get in touch with the governor.
He equally revealed that he was at the moment waiting to welcome the team back to Maiduguri.
Also responding to journalists query, the spokesman of 7 Division of the Nigeria Army, Col. Isa Ado said no information of such attack was received from their formation around the area.
It was reliably gathered that in the convoy were the governor, the governorship candidate of the APC, Prof. Babagana Umara and other top politicians in the state.
