Three out of the six kidnapped victims from Lemna Community in Calabar Municipality of Cross River State have been released by their abductors after an alleged payment of ransoms.
They were said to have been released in far away Esuk Mba (a beach market) in Akpabuyo LGA of the State yesterday.
One of the kidnapped victims has been identified as Emmanuel Ashibel of the department of due process and procurement, Cross River State.
According to witnesses and residents of the area, who spoke in confidentiality, the kidnapped victims have returned to their families.
A member of the local vigilante, while lamenting the ordeal of the victims, called on the Cross River State Government to help increase security presence in the area.
The community officials also disclosed that they have apprehended a suspected informant for the kidnappers.
One of the officials said the suspect was apprehended by a joint task force of security operatives in the Lemna Community in the early hours of yesterday.
The suspect was said to have paraded himself as a mentally deranged person.
He was found clearing road blocks mounted by local vigilante groups in the area.
More information gathered indicated that three waiting speed boats possibly brought the suspected kidnappers.
They sped off on receiving news of the arrest of the suspected informant.
It would be recalled that that three weeks ago, the kidnappers stormed the beach community twice in two weeks where they abducted the six residents.
Commissioner of police in the State, Aminu Alhassan said his men have been deployed to the Lemna community.
