Tinubu orders immediate release of protest minors

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate release of all minors arrested by the Police during the #EndBadGovernance protest, irrespective of the legal circumstances surrounding their continued incarceration.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who was joined by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga and Special Adviser on Public Communications and Orientation, Sunday Dare disclosed this after the Federal Executive Council meeting while briefing the media.

The President also tasked the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to oversee their welfare and ensure that the minors get safely reunited with their families.

Idris further disclosed that a committee, led by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, will investigate the circumstances surrounding their arrest, detention and release.

He further directed that any infractions by law enforcement officials which resulted in the incarceration of the minors would be meted with disciplinary action.

Nigerians have expressed their anger against the Federal Government for prosecuting minors before adult courts last Friday and trying them for treason.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had adjourned the matter till a later date and fined each of the minors for the sum of N10million.
