Train Attack: Minister heads to Edo to ascertain situation

Minister of Transportation Engr. Muazu Jaji Sambo

The Minister of Transportation Alhaji Muazu Jaji Sambo is on the way to Igueben, in Edo State to take stock and be in control of situation relating to the attack, on Saturday on the Igueben Train Station.

Unspecified numbers of passengers waiting fo r a train to Warri, Delta State, were said to have been abducted as gunmen attacked the Igueben Train station in Igueben Local Government, Edo State.

The latest attack which Sunrise.ng learnt left several passengers injured on the Itakpe-Warri Train Service (IWTS) of the modernised standard Gauge.

A source very close to the Minister said the Minister is heading to the incident scene to ascertain for himself the extent of the attack on the station.

He said the latest attack is regrettable because it is coming just after the Federal Government just invested heavily on improving the security architecture of the rail networks.

“The Minister is on the way to Igueben station to ascertain things for himself. You know the Ministry just expended so much to overhaul the security architecture on the railway and it is sad that this is happening barely two months after the Abuja-Kaduna train service resumes operation after nine months suspension due to terrorists attack,” the source who does not want to be mentioned said.

Recall that the Edo State Police public Relations Officer (PPRO) Chiro Nwabuzor, a Superintendent of Police had disclosed to newsmen on Saturday the attack on the train station by yet to be identified gunmen.

Nwabuzor, said the passengers were attacked at the station while waiting for the Warri train. He further disclosed that many were abducted while several sustained injuries during the attack.
