Barcelona has made an “initial offer” to Frenkie de Jong, in a bid to resolve a dispute over £17 million in unpaid salary payments.
The LaLiga side have agreed a £63 million deal with Manchester United for De Jong.
However, the Dutch midfielder is refusing to leave Camp Nou until Barca reimburse him for £17 m in deferred wages.
De Jong accepted a pay cut during the COVID-19 pandemic to help ease the financial burden on the club.
But Barcelona promised to pay the money back in full over the course of his deal, which runs until 2026.
Barcelona now appear to have reneged on that promise, but the UK Independent claims they have made an offer to De Jong to pay him a portion of his deferred salary.
The offer is said to be £10m short of the full package that De Jong is owed but it remains to be seen whether he could write off the rest.
