Tunde Onakoya Reaches and Surpasses the 58-Hour Mark in Chess Marathon (Chess-a-thon)

In a remarkable display of grit and skill, Nigerian chess master, Tunde Onakoya, has shattered the world record for the longest chess marathon.

The event took place under the vibrant lights of Times Square in New York, where Onakoya played chess continuously for 58 hours. This feat surpassed the previous record of 56 hours, nine minutes, and 37 seconds set by Norwegian duo Hallvard Haug Flatebø and Sjur Ferkingstad in 2018.

“We’re pushing to 60 hours, guys. We’re not stopping yet. Let’s keep going”, Onakoya stated on his X account.

“We have a fundraising goal to meet for the education of African children around the world. This is our why – the reason we are doing this.”

“Let’s demonstrate to the world the incredible power of love. Together, we can make this happen.”

Tunde Onakoya has been playing for over 58 hours alongside Shawn Martinez, the US national chess master, as it requires two persons to break the record.
