Two killed as car rams into truck in Lagos

Two people died on Tuesday, after their car, a Honda Civic, ran into a stationary PSP Waste Truck at Igando area of Lagos.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accident also left several other people injured.

Preliminary cause of the accident is said to be over-speeding as the driver of the Honda Civic was said to have lost control of the vehicle on top speed, veered off his lane, into the other side of the road and rammed into the truck.

Taofiq Adebayo, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, in a statement, said the accident occurred at Unity Bus Stop, inward Isheri Roundabout immediately after General Hospital around Isheri area of Igando, Lagos.

He quoted the LASTMA’s Zonal Head, Isheri, Gbenga  Afolalu, as confirming the accident at Isheri.

Afolalu said a pedestrian and a passenger died instantly in the accident, adding that the deceased were handed over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) officials present at the scene of the accident by LASTMA officials.

The vehicles were removed from the road by LASTMA officials in order not to cause serious impediment to free-flow of traffic.
