UEFA suspends Champions League matches over Coronavirus fears

UEFA have confirmed that the Champions League round of 16 second-leg match between Manchester City and Real Madrid next week have been suspended as part of measures to contain the coronavirus outbreak in Europe.

The European football body also suspended the Champions League round of 16 second-leg tie between Juventus and Olympique Lyonnais.

In a statement on its official website on Thursday, UEFA said: “The UEFA Champions League round of 16 matches between Manchester City vs. Real Madrid and Juventus vs. Olympique Lyonnais will not take place as scheduled.

“Following the quarantine imposed on players of Juventus and Real Madrid CF, the following UEFA Champions League matches will not take place as scheduled.

“Further decisions on the two matches will be communicated in due course.”

Man City defeated Real Madrid 2-1 in the first-leg last month in Spain.

Lyon also defeated Juventus in the first-leg last month in France.
