The Governor of Ebonyi State and Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Mr David Umahi, has blamed the Prof George Obiozor led Ohaneze Ndigbo, for the failure to politically resolve the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Umahi, an APC presidential aspirant who spoke in Abakaliki on Saturday, also decried insecurity in the South-East.
He claimed that the apex Igbo socio-cultural body did not follow up on the South-East Governors’ discussions with President Muhammadu Buhari for a political solution to Kanu’s case.
The governor, speaking in Abakaliki while receiving members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, expressed disappointment that extraneous politics had derailed all security and peace measures launched by authorities in the region.
Umahi said the South-East Governors are working together to address the region’s security difficulties as well as other areas of cooperation; but that each state has its own problems and objectives.
He said, “When it comes to security, I must tell you in all honesty, there is politics in our security situation in this region. Do we say all the governors are bonded towards tackling security challenges? The answer is no. There is extreme politics in this region, and it must stop for the sake of our people.”
