The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in conjunction with the Restoration of Hope Initiative (ROHI) have organized a spelling bee competition for secondary schools in Borno State to commemorate this year’s International Day of Education.
Speaking on Tuesday during the grand finale of the competition in Maiduguri, the Program Manager, Restoration of Hope Initiative (ROHI), Mr. Benjamin John said the spelling competition has been a week long activities, which began with TARL, interaction as well as round table discussion session with the school teachers, officials of the UNICEF education program and other stakeholders.
He added that teachers of the participating schools spoke on importance of education, noting that
15 different schools including top four private schools in Maiduguri participated at the preliminary stages.
He further noted that two public schools, Borno State Special School and Galtimari Junior Secondary School were the finalists competing for the trophy.
At the end of the spelling bee competition, Galtimari Junior Government Secondary School Maiduguri emerged as winner of the competition, while the Second position went to the Borno State Special School Maiduguri, the third position went to Ruby Springfield Private School Maiduguri.
Highlights of the activity include pupils spelling of words, group photographs, presentation of winners trophy and consolation prizes, among others.
