Facts have emerged that the fire incident that occurred at UNILAG on Sunday, actually occurred at the University’s Alumni Association building and not GTB as earlier reported.
Sunrise News had on Sunday erroneously reported that the fire had gutted the GTB Bank building in the campus.
A statement obtained by this newspaper, issued by UNILAG’s Communication Unit, stated that the fire incident which occurred around 10:00am on Sunday was effectively put out by men of the Fire Service.
According to the statement, there was no casualty recorded while prompt response by the Fire Service operatives prevented further damage in the fire incident.
The statement reads: “The fire incident which occurred at the UNILAG Alumni Association Building at about 10am on Sunday, September 11, 2022, has been effectively put out.
“The fire was swiflt checked by officers of the Fire Service after it was detected by security operatives at the location. The prompt response prevented any further damage to the building.
The affected area has since been cordoned off for investigation.
Members of the university community and general public are hereby assured that no fatality was recorded and the situation is fully under control.”
