The University of Medical Sciences, Laje, Ondo, in Ondo State, on Wednesday, announced the indefinite suspension of resumption for new and old students of the school.
The suspension followed on the heels of moves by students to protest the new school fees, which was released by the school authorities on Monday.
According to school authorities, medical students are now to pay N2,245, 000, against the old rate of N764, 750 an amount which many parents considered outrageous.

The suspension of academic activities our correspondent gathered was to void a protest earlier scheduled for Wednesday by the students over the increase, many of who considered the school’s Vice Chancellor’s position on the increment as insensitive.
The school in a statement signed by the PAR, Governing Council and General Administration Mr Ezekiel Adeniran, on behalf of the school’s registrar which was obtained by our correspondent said the resumption for all returning students are suspended indefinitely.
“By this circular, all returning students are directed to vacate the university campus and their respective halls of residences within the next 48 hours or latest Thursday November 11, 2021, (today),” the statement stated.
The school threatened to invoke necessary sanction on any student who defies the directive.
Meanwhile some Nigerians are already taking the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adesegun Olayiwola Fatusi, up on his comments regarding the new increment proposed by the school management.
The Vice Chancellor was quoted to have said: “Parents who cannot pay the N2.245 million school fees can withdraw their children, not by force to educate them here.” (sic).
Many who described the increment as idiotic wondered whether his own parents ever paid so much on him all through his school life.
One such Nigerian, Rotimi Adebayo, reacting to a Facebook post on the VC’s comment said: “This is outrageous. It cant even be true. When the most expensive privately owned university in the land does not charge half as much.”
Another, simply wondered, “Did the i**t pay as much when he was schooling?
