The Rebuild Lagos Trust Fund is set to commence its assignment with reconstruction of the Lagos High Court Complex, Igbosere, one of the several buildings destroyed during the unrests in October 2020.

The High Court Complex is one of the colonial heritages of Nigerian Courts system.

A statement issued by the Board of Directors, which was constituted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said an extensive structural integrity assessment has been conducted on the buildings within the High Court Complex to determine the scope of work on the facility.

Noting that the complex includes the Colonial Building, which is the oldest and most recognisable court building in Nigeria, the statement said, “an extensive structural integrity assessment was conducted. The investigation revealed that most of the structural members, especially in the iconic colonial building of the court, were severely affected”.

It explained that the building was found to be structurally defective and unsafe after the vandalisation and, therefore, the existing structures will be demolished and reconstructed into a state-of-the-art facility with a focus on building a 21st Century edifice.

Yet another section of the destroyed Igbosere Court complex before it was pulled down for reconstruction.

“Phase One of the rebuild project is expected to be completed in 18 months with the replication of the historical façade. Phase two of the project will involve the rebuilding of the Babalakin building and the Chief Judge’s section of the court” the Fund stated.

Giving the assurance that the historic iconic facade of the destroyed building will be replicated, the statement urged members of the public to follow its activities on its website, send an email to info@rebuildlagos.org.ng or call 08086446520. The Rebuild Lagos Trust Fund LTD/GTE is a non-profit, Public-Private Partnership (PPP). It has identified an initial six projects to springboard its mission.
