Vending agent charged with stealing customers’ N200,000

Jigawa

SUNRISE – A 23-year-old man, Akinola Kolawole, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates Court over alleged N200,000 theft.

Kolawole, a resident of 35, Oluyi St., Omikunle Junction, Kola Bus-stop, Alagbado, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and disorderly conduct.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Ishola Samuel, alleged that the defendant stole the sum given him by customers of Vending Transaction Unit, Meiran, Lagos, between May 16 and August 2018.

He said the defendant, an agent of the company, collected the money on its behalf, but stole it.

The prosecutor told the court that the theft was discovered during audit of the company’s account.

“The defendant conducted himself in a disorderly manner by not remitting the N200,000  paid by customers into the company’s account,” he added.

According to him, the defendant confessed during police interrogation that he stole the money.

He noted that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs A.I. Abina, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until April 17 for hearing. (NAN)
