In a video presently trending, obtained by Sunrise, has shown the Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai pledging that the electorates in Kaduna that the monetary policy, especially the Naira swap will soon be changed if they voted for the All Progressives Congress Presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In the video, the governor who was seen with the APC governorship candidate for Kaduna State, and other party chieftains assured the people to go about their lawful duties and eschew violence.

He vowed calling the name of Allah several times that the new monetary policy will not stand, and urged everyone with the old notes to remain calm, keep them and wait for the incoming regime of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

He said Tinubu will not only reverse the obnoxious policy, he would give them ample time to return their money to the bank in exchange for the new notes and no one would lose anything during the process.

He said, “we have vowed as your leaders to defend your interest and ensure that you do not lose anything and that we would do until the Almighty Allah wills to take our lives.”

He said all that the price should do is to vote for Asiwaju Tinubu on February 25, and vote for all senators and House of Representatives members and especially the governorship candidate of the party thereafter on March 11, and wait for the new era of fulfilment of dreams.

Sunrise recall that el-Rufai, the Kaduna State Governor, and two others, governor of Kogi and Zamfara, had sued the Federal Government over the implementation of the new note regime.

el-Rufai and the Kogi state Governor Yahaya Bello, were in court yesterday, the day the Supreme Court had slated to hear the originating suit, which had to be adjourned to February 22, 2023, because other states, such as Lagos, Ondo, Niger, Kano, Ogun, and Ekiti among others, were praying to be joined in the suit.

El-Rufai had also denied that the president had called a truce over the matter, noting that no meeti g took place between President Buhari and the governor’s over the implementation of the new note policy.

Sunrise reports that on Thursday, the President in a nationwide broadcast had directed the reintroduction of the old N200 notes to circulate alongside the new N200, N500 and N1000 notes nationwide.

He also called for maximum sanction against anyone caught sabotaging the implementation of the policy which he said is to help stabilise the economy so that the administration can bequeath a stable, solid and healthy economy to it’s successor as well as the generality of Nigerians.

Though the Supreme Court had directed while issuing the adjournment order that all old notes remain legal tender, President Buhari’s broadcast seemed to have sealed the hope of N500 and N1000 notes, which according to the CBN remained illegal and would no longer subsist as legal tenders from February 10, 2023.

Sunrise recalls that in approving the currency swap in the last quarter of 2023, President Buhari had set a January 31, 2023 deadline for the acceptance of the old currency.

He said the new currencies which would begin to circulate from December 15, 2022 are to exist side by side the old notes until the set date in January when the old notes would be taken out of circulation.

The President had approved the extension of the deadline by another 10 days terminating on February 10, 2023. On February 8, the three governor’s had gone to court to seek an extension of the deadline because of the excruciating pain being experienced by cross section of Nigerians.

The Supreme Court in granting an exparte motion had ordered an extension till February 15, 2023, when the court would begin hearing on the merits of the main suit.
