Abdulrasheed Bawa, EFCC chairman

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Abdulrasheed Bawa said the agency has deployed all it’s officers nationwide to arrest anyone who may want to buy or sell votes during the presidential and National Assembly election on Saturday February 25, 2023.

Bawa was a guest on the channels Television programme Politics Today, anchored by Seun Okinbaloye, he said the Commission would be working in partnership with all other intelligence and security agencies adding that though it has a lean workforce, the agency would be relying on other agencies to curb vote buying and selling.

He said the agency gained tremendous intelligence from the last two elections in Ekiti and Odun States, adding that the new money in circulation would help sanitise the system and prevent people with questionable money that can compromise election and the outcomes of the process.

He said it is very easy to identify who will want to buy vote during elections and these people would be apprehended.

He said the agency had Intel’s that some politicians will buy votes in kind and all these are being worked upon to ensure that the EFCC help INEC to deliver the best freest and fairest results in the coming elections.

He said the office of the citizen is the highest in the land and everyone should be aware to preserve it and not allow any politician with the wrong intentions to muddle the process and contaminate the process.

He said every Nigerian must help in ensuring the sanctity of the ballot and ensure that those who want to circumvent the result of the votes should be stopped in their tracks.

He said the agency has come up with dedicated lines and WhatsApp details where whistle blowers would be able to inform the agency.

He said Nigerians can download the Eagle eyes from Play store on android or on iphones, while short codes as well as social media handles of the agency can be reached where incidents can be reported and pictures can be uploaded and when they do, they can be rest assured that the EFCC will do something.
