· As management sympathizes with family of late cop
The Nigerian Railway Corporation’s (NRC) Management has fired back at critics speculating that the late police who died on its Abuja-Kaduna passenger train service was as a result of inadequate attention by qualified medical personnel on its train.
In a statement issued yesterday, the NRC Management debunked the allegation insisting that a qualified medical personnel is usually on any of its train service in case of any emergencies on board anytime the train is in transit.
The NRC management expressed its “heartfelt condolences” to the bereaved family of the late Police Inspector, Nambut Selbol who was on escort duty in the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service on the fateful day.
According to the NRC Management: “The NRC Management wishes to emphatically inform the general public that we have well trained medical personnel and equipped medical cubicles on all our train services to attend to any emergency health challenges of our esteemed passengers.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the medical personnel on duty was Mariam Abdulai, who was assisted by a good Samaritan medical practitioner that happened to be our passenger on board, to revive the ailing cop but was in futility.”
While the eventuality is regretted, the management added that it did everything possible to revive the police officer, but was futile.
Recall that a police escort on official duty on the Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) last Thursday, reportedly died aboard the train conveying passengers from Kaduna to Abuja.
The officer allegedly complained about chest pain before collapsing and all efforts to revive her was abortive.
A source revealed that she passed on even before the nurse and the doctor, who was a passenger aboard the train, could get to her.
A few minutes after the train arrived Abuja, a police team drove into the station to retrieve the remains of the police officer for an undisclosed location.
