The Delta State Government has yet to release any calendar for the 2020/2021 academic session following the closure of schools to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the state, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Patrick Ukah, has said.
He made this known in a statement in Asaba on Thursday.
The commissioner, therefore, advised parents and guardians to disregard the 2020/2021 academic calendar circulating on the social media purported to have emanated from the ministry.
Ukah insisted that the ministry had not taken a decision on the 2020/2021 academic calendar, stressing that “based on its programme on phased reopening of schools, beginning with certificate classes, only JSS3 students are expected to resume school on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.”
“The resumption is preparatory to the Basic Education Certificate Examination organised by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and scheduled to begin on Monday, September 21, 2020,” he added.
