Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has said his state is willing to ensure that the police and the communities in the state work in harmony towards ensuring security of lives and property.
The governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Usman Kadafur at the inauguration of Borno State Community Policing Advisory Committee on Tuesday reiterated the determination of his administration to ensure peaceful and secured society for all in the state.
He said the state is willing to cooperate with the Nigerian Police to create the enabling environment for the officers and men to work in harmony with various members of the communities in which they operate.
Zulum called on the residents of the state to give their maximum cooperation to the Nigerian Police to help ensure a crime free society.
The governor said the Initiative is no doubt coming at a right time and will go a long way in reducing the rate of crime especially Boko Haram Insurgency which he said require networking between the communities and law enforcement agents to contain.
In his address, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police Department of Logistics and Supply, Aminchi Baraya, said the concept of community policing is very Important and will help in the formalization of the same ideals and principles for more proactive, efficient and effective community policing in more challenging situations.
The Borno State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Aliyu, in his contribution, said the present security arrangement in the state which involves CJTF, hunters, traditional rulers and all stakeholders in the fight against insurgency has made it very easy to implement police community policing in the state.
He however appealed for more support and cooperation from all stakeholders.
The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. KaKa Shehu Lawan in his opening remark commended the initiative of the state government and the Nigerian Police for coming up with this very good initiative of tackling insecurity in the Borno State.
It can be reported that the formation of the committee comprises of traditional rulers, security agencies, CSO, NLC, NBA, NUJ, NDLEA and community leaders representatives among others.
