Nigeria’s leading retail bank, Wema Bank, have confirmed that two of its staff have tested positive to the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic and are currently receiving treatment.
The infected staff are being treated after they displayed mild symptoms of the disease.
It also disclosed that the two branches where the cases have been discovered have been shut down for immediate disinfection and would only be reopened once they are certified safe enough to resume banking operation the statement said.
The bank however did not disclose the state where the affected branches are located.
It however stated that in line with its commitment to ensure the safety of lives of its customers, it has notified all staff and customers who have visited those branches to go for Coronavirus test to verify their health status.
It said: “In keeping with our commitment to ensure the safety of our customers, staff and community, we have notified customers who visited those branches to get tested. Both branches have also been shut down for immediate disinfection and will only be reopened once we certify that it is safe enough for services to resume.”
The bank urged its customers in the affected areas to carry out transactions using all its alternative banking channels ALAT and *945# and to reach out to its customer service or visit any other branch closer to them.
